The lion represents bravery, courage and sovereignty. The pike, located behind the lion, symbolizes the warrior virtue of the Paraguayan people and the Phrygian cap, which is held by the pike, represents freedom and republican character, surrounded by the palm and the olive tree. The first symbolizes glory and the second, peace.
