Marking 22 months since russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, we at Helping to Leave are launching a special project: an NFT collection that consists of unique images and real stories of Ukrainians evacuated from areas of military conflict. The number "22" commemorates the 22 months of the ongoing brutal war (as of December 2023) and also represents the year the full-scale invasion began. We prepared our collection in December, yet finalized the minting in January. Therefore, we added one more bonus NFT to the collection to represent the recently passed year 2023 and the ongoing 23rd month of the full-scale invasion. The tokens are priced according to different categories of evacuation case complexity. Purchase an NFT or spread the word to help us evacuate more Ukrainians who need this today.

Tetiana is 22 years old and has lived her whole life in Bakhmut. When russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Tetiana and her family found themselves very close to the frontline. Before hearing the sound of the first explosions mere kilometers away from her on February 24th, Tetiana refused to believe that such a thing was even possible in the 21st century. The family spent the next few days in a shocked state. Seeing the military vehicles and equipment arriving and taking into account the number of military objects nearby, the family decided to evacuate. In mid-March, they left Bakhmut for Chasiv Yar where they stayed for about a month. Tetiana didn't have a plan; she just knew she wanted to protect her child. Next, they traveled to Odesa to be shortly hosted by relatives. One and a half months later, not to be a burden for their hosts, the family fled to Romania to stay there for a year. At some point, homesickness became unbearable. There was no chance to return to Bakhmut, since the city was under constant shelling, and Tetiana returned to Odessa. It was nice to meet the relatives and be back in Ukraine, but a whole week of night shelling ruined plans to stay longer. The family moved again, this time to Poland, where they now live and work. Every day is filled with thoughts about Ukraine – Tetiana hopes to come back as soon as they can feel safe in their homeland again. However, Bakhmut is now more of a memory than a city to return to.
