"Gegenformen" is a series of expressive prints that understands the human body as a projection surface for inner conflicts and collective states. In a powerfully reduced formal language, figures emerge from black and white contrasts - they wrestle with themselves, touch each other, disappear. Each variation tells a different emotional story, between ritual, memory and resistance.

With an energetic gesture and deep emotional expression, Amawe creates a powerful visual composition in this hand-colored linocut print that hovers between abstraction and figure. In an interplay of dense red tones, bright blue inclusions and negative forms left white, a symbolic scene unfolds that tells of closeness, transformation and perhaps also protection.
An archaic-looking figure with outstretched arms dominates the center - a motif that evokes both spiritual embrace and existential openness. The deliberately raw editing technique leaves room for interpretation and lends the work a rhythmic, pulsating energy.
Amawe knows how to condense color and form into emotional ciphers. The intense application of red - almost like a skin over the picture support - stands in exciting contrast to the delicate, watercolor-like shades of blue, which mark deliberately placed poles of calm. This combination of expressive letterpress printing and glazing hand-coloring creates a visual depth that does not allow the eye to rest - and yet invites inner contemplation.
The work was created on November 23, 2000 and bears the dedication “for André” - a reference to the personal significance of the picture as a gesture or artistic response to a relationship, friendship or shared experience. The print is signed and dated, lending it additional authenticity and intimacy.
The picture can be read as a symbolic representation of a human connection or encounter. It could be about themes such as protection, cohesion, birth, transformation or detachment. The central character appears almost like a link between the other forms, perhaps as a symbol of a creator, helper or connector.
The strong abstraction invites subjective interpretation, which is a central feature of many modern prints - especially those with spiritual or existential themes.
