Sometimes when you're in the depths of your darkness, it feels impossible to get out. For me it was when my depression hit hard. I could barely get out of bed: I felt hopeless and alone, despite having people around me. Depression left me emotionally exhausted as if I was in quicksand, so I knew I needed to do something to keep myself from drowning. I always had a love for post-hardcore and metal music, which is what led me to a local music store, where I bought my first bass guitar. I realized that the depression was nothing more than stagnant energy and that in order to move I needed to create. Music is a positive source of energy that continues to fuel me. Through my love of music I realized it is more important to focus on enjoying the journey of learning, creating, and playing, instead of worrying about the destination. Despite the hardships we face as creatives, we all have access to a creative power that can manifest itself in positive ways - through music, design, cooking, dancing, or in this case, something as simple as a sketch.
